The Wigwam operated from 1927 until 1967. It was owned by Roy Hedge who passed away in 1955. They were known for generous helpings of chicken pies, prime ribs, spaghetti, fish and potatoes. They also had great deserts. The entire place had a native American motif as you can see in the old photos.
The old building became the "Trading Post", a collection of about 40 small shops run by independent operators. The city felt the old WigWam building was a fire trap so it was in a dispute with the Trading Post operators in 1971. The ACLU was involved because the shop owners believed they were being discriminated against. The following year, the old building was destroyed by fire.
